Mrs. D.P. Bowers, the actress, leaves for the lake today. Owing to the lack of funds, the weather service reports heretofore issued by the Signal Service Department, have been discontinued. For the six months ending June 31, there were four business failures in Nevada.

100 years ago

Today Carson Valley represents one of the most delightful spots in all Nevada. Her thousands of acres of alfalfa is being matured and within a month the mowers sickle will begin the gigantic tasks of reducing the blue blossoms to hay.

E.O. Smith of the U.S. Marines, whose picture was taken while he was on duty in Shanghai, was recognized on the moving picture screen by the man's brother, Scott Smith of Carson. E.O. Smith is expected here on a honeymoon trip tomorrow. She is the niece of E.E. Winters of Fallon.

50 years ago

The Carson trustees have directed the city attorney to write a letter to the Public Service Commission protesting a new telephone rate. Action was taken after a telephone bill of more than $45 was received for one month of service at the fire department.

In a flurry of last-minute filings, five persons have filed for mayor of Carson City, including disabled veteran Rhinestone Cowboy.

Carson area youth are getting ready for the annual Capital City 4-H fair. For the 14 clubs in the Carson/Storey area, members are working on arts and craft projects, preparing animals for show. The fair is at Fuji Park.
