Soccer signups at Smith's

Dayton Valley Soccer will be holding fall registrations at Smith's Market in Dayton from 5 to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Cost is $25 for returning players and $65 for new players, $55 for additional players in the same family. After July 15, the cost will jump to $80.

Mammovan rolls into Dayton

The Mammovan will be in Dayton from 7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m., on Wednesday, at Smith's Food and Drug, 2200 Highway 50 East.

Through the support of several organizations, mammograms will be available by appointment, for age and income eligible, at no charge.

Vendors sought for Dayton Valley Days

The 20th annual Dayton Valley Days will be Sept. 20-21 and will honor the buildings of yesterday with the theme, "Old Places, New Faces." The Dayton Station historical railroad depot will be included, along with the other buildings from the community's past.

Money raised goes to the continued restoration of historic Old Town Dayton and aiding organizations that provide Christmas gifts to those in need, provide prevention and intervention, scholarships and provide support to other needs of the community.

Lyon County hosting Babe Ruth All-Star qualifier

Lyon County Babe Ruth is hosting the 13-year-old Prep All-Star qualifier tournament this year for the first time.

The tournament will consist of four teams; Carson City, Carson Valley, Truckee and Lyon County.

The winner and runner up will qualify for a birth in the Nevada State Babe Ruth tournament next week in Elko.

The tournament starts Friday and will run through Sunday. Fridays games are at 2and 4:30 p.m., Saturday games are at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All the games will be played at our Mark Twain Park. The snack bar will be open and serving tri-tip sandwichs along with hamburgers and lots of hot dogs.

Misfits part of Railway Reflections

The Misfits Theater Group will be performing a special "railroad-themed" melodrama for the Railway Reflections International Art Expo.

All of the Misfits net proceeds will go to the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation to help fund the V&T reconstruction, and the group will perform in both Dayton and Virginia City.

"The Perils of Pusher" or "Building the V&T Railroad" will be performed July 25-26 at Chuck's Old West Grille in Dayton and Aug. 1-3 at Piper's Opera House, Virginia City. Call 246-9622.

Gold Hill

Theater to perform 'The Tempest'

Shakespeare on the Rocks is back at the Gold Hill Hotel as the Gold Hill Theater Troupe performs "The Tempest."

The play will be performed in the gazebo across Main Street from the hotel building at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from July 24 to Aug. 9.

Cost for Thursdays is $15 for general admission and $20 for reserved seating; for Fridays and Saturdays it is $25 for general admission and $30 for reserved. Call 847-0111.

Mammovan in Silver Springs on Tuesday

The Mammovan will be in Silver Springs from 7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Tuesday, at the Silver Springs Senior Center, 1050 Pyramid St.

Fireman's Ball planned for July 26

The first Fireman's Ball since the fire that destroyed the Silver City Schoolhouse Community Center will take place at 4 p.m. July 26 in Silver City.

The 2008 Fireman's Ball Fundraiser & Music Festival will benefit the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department, which backs up fire departments in Virginia City, Dayton and Carson City during emergencies.

The event will include live music, food, dancing, vendors, tie-dyed memorabilia and fun in the park.

Performing will be Michelle Lundeen "the Queen of Steam" with Blues Streak all the way from San Diego, and local favorites Red Rose, Trippin Buddas, the Downwinders, and special guests starting at 4 p.m.

Admission is free.

Booth space for vendors is available and there is no upfront charge for a booth. The fire department requests a donation of 20 percent to 50 percent of receipts at the end of the event.

This event dates back to the early 1970s and benefits the Volunteer Fire Department and the community.

Virginia City

Bluegrass festival this weekend

Bluegrass on the Comstock will be held from noon today and Saturday at Miner's Park in Virginia City.

Featured Performers are Sawmill Road, Bound to Ride, Alhambra Valley Band, Rosebud Blue, Dalton Mountain Gang, Wild Horse Drive, Cook River Trio, Carson Ramblers, Back Forty, Keystone, Westwind, Gritchy MaGrally, and other popular artists.

Admission is $20 Saturday; $15 Sunday and $30 both days. Call 847-4FUN.
