Bighorns defeat Astros

The Nevada Bighorns picked up their biggest win of the season in a 4-2 victory over the Reno Astros on Wednesday at Moana Stadium.

The Bighorns struck for four runs in the sixth inning against the Astros, a team with a roster that features many former and current college and professional players.

In the sixth, Royal Good and Aaron Henry both singled and after Kevin Schlange's sacrifice bunt, Tyson Jaquez hit a two-run single. Ryan Lane and Jeff Young each followed with RBI singles to make it 4-2.

Starting pitcher D.J. Simen allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking none over five innings. Ryan Shepard and Troy Morris each pitched a scoreless inning and Brett Low picked up the save, striking out three over two scoreless innings. Henry and Jaquez each had two hits and Adam Anderson added a hit for the Bighorns.

The Bighorns will host a four-game series this weekend against the San Francisco Seagulls at Western Nevada College's John L. Harvey Field.

The teams will play a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, and another doubleheader, beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.
