The Nevada Bighorns swept a doubleheader Saturday, downing College of Marin 8-4 in the opener and 11-6 in the nightcap at Western Nevada College.
Ryan Simpson went a combined 4-for-8 with six runs batted in to pace the Bighorns, who improved to 4-1 with the sweep. In game two, Simpson went 3-for-4 and nearly hit for the cycle, drilling a second-inning solo homer, knocked in two with a triple and added an RBI double.
Chris Garcia got the win for the Bighorns and got some help offensively from Carson High School graduates Aaron Henry (2-for-4, two RBI) and Kevin Schlange (2-for-4, three RBI).
Ray Barrett also added an RBI, going 1-for-4. Jeff Young added two hits and Marshall Kennebrew and Tommy O'Brian each added one hit.
Jesse Rasner got the win in the opener.
Schlange (1-for-2) and Ryan Lane (2-for-4) each had two RBI in the opener. Henry (1-for-4, one RBI) notched an inside-the-park home run in the third inning, while Kinnebrew (2-for-3) chipped in an RBI.
Young and O'Brian each added a hit.
The Bighorns will meet the Merchants for a single game at WNC today at 10 a.m.
