Did you know... Lake Tahoe's worst drought on record lasted from 1987 to 1994?

With records dating back to 1900, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority has catalogued the highs and lows of Tahoe's water levels.

Over the years the lake has dipped below the natural rim at 6,223 feet and tipped over the maximum elevation behind the dam of 6,229 feet, topping out at over 6,231 feet in 1907, and bottoming out at 6,220 feet in 1992.

The second-worst drought in Tahoe's recorded history lasted from 1928 to 1935, and wasn't topped until the drought of 1987 to 1994.

But after the drought ended in 1995, Lake Tahoe saw its most dramatic rise, going from 6221 feet in Oct. 1994 to almost 6227 in July on 1995 " rising by almost 6 feet.

Research shows it takes roughly two or three years of non-drought precipitation on average to refill the lake after a drought period.
