A celebration honoring the life of Lenore Cruz, who passed away surrounded by her family on June 8, 2008 will 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Empire Ranch Golf Clubhouse, 1875 Fair Way in Carson City.

Born Lenore Gloria Ashbaugh on April 2, 1938, in Windsor, Ontario Canada, Lenore graduated from Teachers' College in Canada and taught elementary school prior to immigrating to the United States in 1963. She proudly became a naturalized American citizen in 1970 and worked for the State of Nevada, retiring from the State Health Department in 1998.

Lenore was a volunteer for R.S.V.P. and St. Mary's Hospice, and she appreciated camping, collecting antiques, reading, gathering friends for fun and laughter, caring for animals, gardening, and watching British comedies and Oakland A's Baseball games.

Most importantly, Lenore adored her family and was the love of her two daughters, Amy Davey and Christine Tirey, of Carson City. In addition to her daughters, Lenore is survived by her two sons-in-law, Stephen Davey and Jeff Tirey, four grandchildren, Preston, Elena, Danae and Stephen, her sisters Marilyn and Charlene, several nieces and nephews and long-time friend, Tony Udall.

Friends and former colleagues are welcome to join the family for the celebration of Lenore's life and her contributions as a mother, grandmother, citizen, and extraordinary human being.
