Favre pulls out of ACC

Brett Favre has compiled an impressive streak of consecutive starts in the NFL, but his first start in the American Century Championship will have to wait.

The recently retired Green Bay Packers' quarterback pulled out of the July 8-13 tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course because of a "scheduling conflict," according to Phil Weidinger.

Weidinger, whose public relations firm has promoted the event for the past 17 years, was unsure what Favre's conflict is. There have been rumors since Favre's retirement that the three-time NFL MVP was possibly considering a comeback.

One of the many records Favre took into retirement was his streak of 275 consecutive games at quarterback.

As the 19-year-old ACC was losing one of its brightest new stars, Weidinger said that real estate mogul Donald Trump has been added to the field.

Other players to pull out in the last month are San Diego Chargers' running back LaDainian Tomlinson, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, actor Aidan Quinn and Baseball Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith.

Among the new additions to the tournament are NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett, sports announcer Joe Buck, former All-Star outfielder Darryl Strawberry, 11-time national sportswriter-of-the-year Rick Reilly, Alfonso Ribeiro of "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and Giants' retired defensive end Michael Strahan.

Prices are $15 for the July 8-10 practice and celebrity-amateur rounds and $25 for each of the three tournament rounds July 11-13. Children 10 and younger are admitted free with a paid adult, with a maximum of two per adult. Fans planning to spend the week at the event can purchase a week-long pass for $60.
