MAGIKO, a two-week summer celebration taking place today through July 5 is in its second year and spotlights the many diverse activities that take place in the towns of Minden, Gardnerville and Genoa, as well as Topaz Lake.
MAGIKO's sporting events provide visitors a chance to enjoy Carson Valley's astounding natural beauty up close. A day-long bike tour, culminating in an ice cream social and barbecue, offers cyclists of all levels a chance to tour the agricultural surroundings by road, while the MAGIKO Summercross, a dirt track motocross event, and ATV Geocache excursions travel off the beaten path and into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. For those with the hunger for victory, the Greater Reno-Tahoe Regional Classic Golf Tournament will sate appetites.
Not only does MAGIKO offer exciting sporting events, but it also showcases the arts, culture and life in the Valley. Events kick off with the Minden Village Block Party, a community event located in Minden, featuring beer, wine, food, magic, music and fun. The art studios and galleries tours, art show and miniature art exhibit mix the beauty of the Sierra Nevada with a representation of the area's culture.
Evening events consist of concerts at Heritage, Minden and Genoa parks, movies under the stars, the Wings of Change Hangar Dance, Fourth of July celebrations, including Pops in the Park featuring the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, and Porsches in the Park.
Vital to life in the valley is the Basque culture. Carson Valley will present Basque Sunday, a celebration of the culture highlighted with music, dancing and Basque cuisine from local restaurants, with a traditional picon punch. However, a Basque meal is not the only food one might want to indulge in as the Winemaker's Dinner at Genoa Lakes Golf Club offers fine dining and breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada foothills.
