LAS VEGAS " Authorities say the district attorney of Nye County was issued a drunk driving summons after crashing cars twice in six hours on the same California desert highway.

The California Highway Patrol in Barstow and the Inyo County sheriff's office in Independence say Nye County DA Robert Beckett was not seriously hurt in either crash, although both vehicles overturned and were badly damaged.

The first crash, reported at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, involved a Nye County-owned 2003 Ford Expedition that crashed off Highway 127 near Shoshone, Calif.

The 49-year-old Beckett, a candidate for a six-year term as a Nevada state judge, wasn't commenting Thursday.

CHP Officer Taj Johnson says Beckett failed a blood-alcohol breath test and was issued a summons for driving while intoxicated after the second crash, about 7:35 p.m. Sunday.
