Cardinals rally, Carson American rolls

Brett Valley's three-run triple was the big hit in a six-run fourth inning as the Carson Cardinals overcame a 4-0 deficit to beat Manogue 10-5 on Friday at Ron McNutt Field.

David Charles pitched a complete game for the win, allowing one earned run on five hits over seven innings while striking out four.

Down 4-0 in the fourth, Cody Barr began the six-run rally with a solo home run. Brooks Hutchins singled and after Jeff Butler and Cameron Mayville both walked, Collin Grischott followed with an RBI single. Valley then belted his three-run triple and scored on a passed ball to make it 6-4.

After Manogue scored an unearned run with the benefit of a hit in the fifth, the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the fifth. Butler was hit by a pitch, Mayville walked and after Grischott's sacrifice bunt, Butler scored on a passed ball to make it 7-5.

In the sixth, Valley singled and after Paul Cagle was hit by a pitch, Brook Hutchins followed with a two-run double. Mayville then hit an RBI single to make it 10-5.

Charles worked out of a jam in the first after the bases were loaded with one out when he struck out the next two batters. After Manogue scored to take a 1-0 lead in the third, it still had runners at first and third with one out, but Charles got a strikeout and a groundout to prevent any further damage.

Manogue scored three unearned runs in the fourth after an error, walk and a hit batsman. A run scored on a fielder's choice and another run scored on a two-run double to give Manogue a 4-0 lead.

Barr, Valley and Hutchins all had two hits and Colby Blueberg added a hit for the Cardinals, who will next play at 2 p.m. Sunday against North Valleys at Ron McNutt Field.

Jace Zampirro and Andy Cooper each hit a grand slam home run as Carson American improved to 2-0 in the 11-12 Little League All-Star Hooligan Tournament at Gardnerville's Aspen Park.

Chaz Nystrom also hit a two-run home run and Zach Andrews, Zak Harges and Joe Runge all went 2-for-3. The Americans will play again at 1:30 p.m. today against Sparks National.
