Man charged with multiple drug counts after traffic stop

When Carson City Sheriff's Deputy D. Gomes saw a man drinking a beer and not using turn signals while driving a green Mazda on Saliman Road at 3:55 p.m. on June 13, he pulled the car over.

According to Gomes' report, Mark Ryan Garner, 44, of Carson City, continued driving until he pulled into a driveway on Elaine Street and tried to escape on foot after climbing a chain-link fence and dashing across an open field.

Gomes caught the suspect about 55 yards into the field and placed him under arrest, before checking the Mazda.

There, according to the report, he found a plastic bag with 10.3 grams of a white powder, s small scale with white residue and a small glass pipe, along with an open can of beer.

Behind the driver's seat was a backpack containing three grams of methamphetamine, 30 hypodermic needles, two with a clear substance on them, small clear bags, a bag containing 63 prescription pills, a silver spoon and a container with about 60 grams of white powder.

In the trunk the deputy found sealed suitcases, backpacks, loose clothing with store tags and electronic items.

Garner has been charged with numerous counts, including suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor failure-to-appear warrant, felony possession of prescription drugs, felony conspiracy to traffic in drugs, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, six counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, 30 counts of possession of hypodermic needles, 11 counts of possession of prescription drugs, felony possession of drugs for sale.

He was also charged with misdemeanor open container and misdemeanor failure to use his turn signal.

Bail was set at $35,172.
