Lori Blum-Jackson was nominated by her husband, Rick, who said her pottery and magnets have attracted buyers from as far away as Virginia and Rhode Island.

Blum-Jackson, a native of Las Vegas, has had her work spotlighted in Nevada Magazine in their Christmas issue.

She has spent 20 years creating pottery in Humboldt, Calif., and Carson City, and now designs spas with art work in Sonoma, Calif.

Nature plays an important role in her art, including working with grapes and lavender, imprinting them in clay so they could be enjoyed year-round.

She also wanted people to be able to purchase souvenirs that were made in Nevada, so she worked on the clocks, magnets and ornaments.

Blum-Jackson studied pottery at College of the Redwoods in Northern California, and attended workshops by famous potters like Paul Soldner and Vivika and Otto Heino, among many others.

She has helped teach workshop on RAKU firing and kiln building with Taylor Made pottery and was a member of the North Coast Potters guild for 20 years.

She has given back to the community through her work with the Carson City Host Lions Club celebrating their 75th anniversary as the oldest service club in town.

She also creates clocks that were inspired by the anniversary and formation of the Nevada district.
