Sharon K. Tetley has been described as the "brains" behind much of the activity in the Western Nevada College Art Department.

She has not only taught printmaking and drawing, but she is an artist herself, working in many mediums, according to Daniel J. Neverett, the college's vice president of finance and administrative services.

Neverett nominated Tetley for the Community Awards of Northern Nevada in the artistic category.

He said Tetley has also provided remarkable leadership in creating an artistic atmosphere at the college.

He said she was heavily involved in the design and construction of a new 950-square-foot gallery space in the Bristlecone Building, a state-of-the-art facility to house exhibits of nationally recognized regional artists as well as students' work.

She also developed an ongoing series of public shows for the new gallery, the atrium/main entrance gallery and the main hallway gallery.

Her efforts in redesigning and enhancing the college's former gallery included obtaining funding to retrofit the gallery with lighting that would improve the shows located in that area.

Tetley also created a series of artist receptions so that students, faculty and staff and members of the public could meet the artists.

She has also written and submitted grant funding applications to support her department and the WNC gallery series.
