Ken was born in Arroya Grande, Calif. on March 31, 1912. At age 95 he passed away peacefully on 02/29/2008 at Lake Tahoe. He was a man of many talents and life experiences.
He worked on his father's cattle ranch and trucking business. He then worked for his uncle at Midway Fishing Tools in the oil fields around Bakersfield and later worked with another uncle resurfacing bowling alleys.
He was very athletic at the University of California, Berkeley. That is where he met his first wife Margaret Snyder at an International House dance. He also served in World War II in the Navy stationed at Norfolk, Va.
Later he worked in Hawthorne at the ammunition depot and flew home to Carson City and Lake Tahoe on weekends in his own plane. He worked for the Nevada State Employment Security Dept. and helped organize the State Employees Association. For 35 years he ran his Farmers Insurance agency in Carson until age 75 when he turned it over to his son, Fred. Part of the time his agency was in his Burlington Shoe Store. After Margaret passed away he married Dorothea Lloyd in 1984.
They have been very active in the Presbyterian Church and Methodist Church. Family was the most important thing to him. He was head of the Carson Ski Patrol and had the family taking part in the junior ski program.
He was active in politics also. In fact, he and Paul Laxalt went to California to encourage Ronald Reagan to run for President.
Ken is survived by his wife of 23 years Dorothea, an older sister Anita Garcia of San Luis Obispo, Calif., younger sister Shirley Finan of Hawaii, sons Fred Jones (Pat) of Carson City, Scott Jones (Sue) of Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe, daughters, Barbara Jones of Reno, Jean Morrow (George) of Fallon. He was like a father to Mike Miller (Linda) of Idaho, and stepchildren, Dr. Bill Lloyd of Reno, Harold Lloyd (Marsha) of Ridgecrest, Calif., Carolyn Robinson of Spanish Springs, Steven Lloyd of Reno.
He adored his 23 grand children and 16 great grand children. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8th. At 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, 412 W. Musser at Division St., Carson City. Fitzhenry's Funeral Home will be handling the final arrangements.
