Parole and Probation Chief John Gonska has resigned the position.

"Because of all the travel and my uncompromising devotion to the job, I have finally accepted the fact that I need to spend more time with my family and they support my decision," he said.

The office currently supervises more than 18,000 offenders.

Gonska spent 20 years with the U.S. Probation Office before taking the Nevada post in 2004.
