Old hospital to be used mostly as 29-bed long-term care facility, other services to remain

A Texas-based group will provide long-term medical care at the old downtown hospital and other services already there will stay.

Community Hospital Corporation, based in Plano, Texas, will run the the 29-bed ContinueCARE Hospital of Carson Tahoe.

The Cirrus Group of Dallas, Texas, bought the building last week for $20 million. It will lease space to the hospital corporation and to groups that already have services there, The Center for Advanced Eye Care and Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare.

Carson Tahoe runs behavioral health, imaging, lab, diabetes education and wound care services at the 775 Fleischmann Way building.

The long-term care hospital is scheduled to open by late spring.

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare had run a hospital at the downtown buidling since 1968, before it opened the new $118 million Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in northeast Carson City in late 2005.
