Carson City


Motor car rides at the state museum


The Nevada State Railroad will begin its 2008 train operating season by offering motor car rides 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Sunday and May 17-18. The steam train will run Mother's Day weekend, May 10-11 and Memorial Day May 24-26. For information, call 687-6953.




RSVP for healthcare auxiliary meeting


RSVP by Thursday for The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary May meeting and luncheon at 11 a.m. May 13 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Highway 50 East. Installation of the 2008-2009 Executive Board will take place at the meeting. Cost is $20 per person. RSVP to 882-7057.




Volunteers needed for fundraisers


Volunteers are needed for several Alzheimer's Walk fundraisers sponsored by Team Ayer's Friends. Volunteers are needed the week of May 12 for sorting and pricing items, as well as on May 17 for setting up, selling items and for the coffee bar. Other fundraisers are on June 20, July 25 and Aug. 8. To volunteer or for information, call 883-0703.




Galaxy Theatres offering passes


The Galaxy Theatres has rolled out its Privilege Pass program. The program has been instituted in a effort to exclude trouble makers from the theater and not the majority of minors. The privilege pass is a photo I.D. card that will be issued to minors 17 and younger who wish to be admitted to the theater during curfew periods and agree to follow basic rules of good behavior. Privilege Passes will be issued noon-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks volunteers


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada has expanded to Douglas County Middle Schools and seeks volunteer mentors. Volunteer mentors will be matched with local children who need and want a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor.
