Oodles of Noodles this weekend

The Dayton Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual pasta cook-off and street fair fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Old Town Dayton.

More than 50 vendors will be on hand and more than 10 cooks will offer pasta for tasting. Tasters will then vote for their favorites. Call 246-7909 for more information.

Wine and appetizer fundraiser for candidate

A wine and appetizer fundraiser to benefit Lyon County Commission District II candidate Donna Kristaponis will be held at 5:30 p.m. on May 17 at 690 St. Andrews Drive, Dayton.

Wine will be from Tahoe Ridge Winery, with appetizers provided by friends of the campaign.Recommended donation is $40 a couple; $25 per person. RSVP to 241-2212.

Vendors sought for Dayton Valley Days

The 20th annual Dayton Valley Days will be Sept. 20-21 and will honor the buildings of yesterday with the theme, "Old Places, New Faces."

The Dayton Station historical railroad depot will be included, along with the other buildings from the community's past.

Money raised goes to the continued restoration of historic Old Town Dayton and aiding organizations that provide Christmas gifts to those in need, provide prevention and intervention, scholarships and provide support to other needs of the community. Call 246-3378 for a booth or other information.

Fire Department golf tournament to benefit kids

The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District will hold its 4th Annual CLCFD Kids to Burn Camp Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. June 7 at Dayton Valley Country Club at Legado.

Proceeds will be used to send kids to Firefighters Kids Camp at Lake Tahoe, and to support the Central Lyon County Burn Fund.

Last year, the fire district was able to send four children to camp. The Firefighters' Kids Camp is a recovery program that provides young burn survivors with a fun and safe camp environment that encourages healing, personal growth and character development.

The CLCF Burn Fund is seeking sponsors, donors and players. Sponsors will be recognized at the tees with a sign bearing the name of the person or company sponsoring the hole. Raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the day. There will also be a chance to win a new car with a hole-in-one. Call Chuck Ritter at 246-6209.

Enrollment open for ambulance program

Central Lyon County Fire Protection District is offering the Frontier Saver Ambulance Subscription Service to the residents of Central Lyon County. Signing up for the Frontier Saver Program will prevent expensive ambulance fees during a medical emergency.

The program covers all non-reimbursed expenses for emergency ground ambulance transportation to area hospitals. Cost of the program is $65 for a household and $50 for a single person.

Chuck's aids injured girl by donating portion of profits

Chuck's Old West Grill at 65 Pike St., Dayton is donating proceeds from two days to aid a 7-year-old girl hit by a car.

Lindsay Davidson, a Dayton Elementary School second-grader, was struck by a car as she and a 12-year-old neighbor returned home from a three-block walk to a convenience store. She suffered a ruptured spleen, and a head injury.

Restaurant owner Sherry Loving said 10 percent of restaurant receipts to a fund for the girl.

The wait staff are donating tips and there will be donation jar as well.

Silver City

Youth program set, includes yoga, basketball and arts

Silver City's Summer Youth Program will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays from June 16 to August 12, and is open to all area children ages 5 to 15.

Parents are required to stay and help with the program.

Activities will include yoga, basketball, beading, macrame and art, film workshop, music lessons, theater workshop, field trips, reading, history tours, and more.

This program is funded through the Silver City Case for Change Task Force and Healthy Communities Coalition, local used book sales, Nevada Arts Council, Dayton Food Bank, and Lyon County Recreation. Call 847-0742.

Silver Springs

Fly-in theme focuses on children

The 13th Annual Lyon County Fly-In will be held May 17-18 at the Lyon County Regional Airport in Silver Springs with the theme, "Kids in Aviation."

The event includes fly-bys, rocket displays, model planes, private, military, antique planes, and a search and rescue demonstration by NAS Fallon Search & Rescue.

A pancake breakfast is 7-10 a.m. both days. The breakfast is free for pilots that fly into the airport.

The unique setting allows spectators to view planes up close. Aviation fans are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to view the air show on the airport grounds.

The Fly-In is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children between the ages of 8-17 years of age can participate in the "Young Eagles" program. Experience pilots offer free rides of youths as a means to encourage young people to learn more about aviation.

Sustainable workshop at the library

The Silver Stage Library's 4th Annual Sustainable Workshop is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the library, at 905 Hwy. 50 West, Silver Springs.

Workshop participants can learn about organic gardening, alternative energy and local resources. There will be handouts, a slide show and speakers. Refreshments will be served and a door prize awarded.

Wranglers celebrate Carson River

The Carson River Festival, a family-friendly event, will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Fort Churchill State Historic Park on Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs.

Teens from local high schools are planning activities such as crafts, history programs, nature programs, hiking, birding, face painting and interactive models.

Festival-goers should bring a picnic lunch. A concession stand will also be available to purchase food.

B&Bs get together for Mom's Day Event

The Comstock's four bed & breakfasts will offer free guided tours from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Costumed innkeepers will provide information on the history of each establishment. Light refreshments will be served.

The four participating inns are the B Street House on North B Street, Edith Palmer's Country Inn on South B Street, the Chollar Mansion on South E Street and Seven Mile Canyon Ranch, two miles north of town on SR-341.

Storey ambulance subscription program begins

Open Enrollment for the Storey County Fire Department Ambulance Subscription program is through June 30. It is open to all residents within the department's response area.

Cost is $25 per year per household, and $10 for those older than 55. If you are older the age of 55 the cost is only $10 per year.

Classical guitar music show planned

"Music of the Gilded Age," a performance of 19th century popular tunes performed by regional classical guitarists at 7 p.m. today at Piper's Opera House.

Solos, ensemble pieces and dance numbers will be part of the show.
