Two events help victims of domestic violence

Two events in one week will benefit victims of Domestic Violence. Thanks to the owners of D'Vine Wine, Kim and Chris Donner, and Pamela Bailey of Arbonne products, you can come join the fun this Tuesday with "The Hot Two." Check out the silent auction and enjoy a glass of wine and hors d' oeuvres. The proceeds from the event will help to purchase, "New Beginnings" bags for victims of domestic violence.

Take your mother out to relax and enjoy an outstanding brunch. Half of the proceeds from this event will go directly to assisting our town's only Domestic Violence Shelter. My good friend Andrew Reno will be there making sure your experience at the Gold Dust West is a memorable one and Chef Rusty will pull out all the stops to make this brunch the best you ever had. The four Virginia City bed and breakfast inns will open their doors to the public for free tours and light refreshments starting on Mother's Day. Enjoy the tour of the B Street House Bed and Breakfast; the Chollar Mansion Bed and Breakfast; Edith Palmer's Country Inn, and the Seven Mile Canyon Ranch, one mile north of Virginia City.

Edith Palmer's Country Inn occupies four restored homes from the 1860s, one of which housed Ellis Morton, who ran a cider and vinegar factory behind the home. Palmer ran a lodging house in the former Morton home - whose most famous client was Marilyn Monroe.

The Chollar Mansion is located in the original mine superintendent's office of the Chollar mine. The 1876 B Street House is the original home of Henry Piper, of Piper's Opera House Fame.

The Seven Mile Canyon Ranch was the former home of local John Tyson and now is home to horses available to guests desiring a dude ranch experience.

Carriage rides will be available for tour guests traveling between the bed and breakfasts in town.

This free children's event is a must-do if you want to spend your day fishing with your mom while dad cleans them after you catch your limit. This event is free to the children and is a great family day for everyone. Thanks to the Carson City Elk's Club you can teach your children to fish.

TOMMY'S ANNUAL FISHING DERBY

What: Tommy's Fishing Derby. Lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.

Where: Davis Creek Park in the Group Day Use area by the lake.

When: Saturday, registration 8:30 - 10 a.m.; fish from 9 - 11 a.m.

Cost: Absolutely free to children ages 2-12.

Prizes: Judging of fish and prizes for largest fish.

Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will hol their premier event, "Oodles of Noodles." This is a fun happening and Dayton Valley Floral & Nursery has offered their facility for a silent auction. There is a bus to shuttle you around the town from the downtown events, to Dayton Valley Floral & Nursery, and on to the Dayton Valley Golf & County Club.

What: One-day event that combines good food and vendor and business booths.
