After weighing four options, talking to county staff and holding a public meeting for concerned residents, Sierra Pacific Power Co. officials still want to expand their substation in Lyon County.
Sierra Pacific Power Co. spokeswoman Fay Anderson said the utility preferred to stick with its original plan to upgrade and expand the exiting 2-acre lot on Six Mile Canyon Road across from Dwight Way.
The company has requested a special use permit from the county for the upgrade, which will enlarge the station to cover the entire lot, not just a corner of it. It would include a 35-foot communication tower, increase the capacity of the substation form 60,000 volts to 120,000 volts, and be enclosed by a brick wall.
