Robert Waverley Gilkey died May 8, 2008 at home in Mountain View, Calif.

Robert was born in Palo Alto, Calif. on Sept. 30, 1927.

In 1951, Robert graduated from Golden Gate University in

San Francisco, earning a degree in Business Administration. Upon

graduation, Robert began working at Dura-Bond Bearing Co. in Palo

Alto. Years later he became president. In 1988, he relocated the

company to Carson City. He and Shaw Construction Company

started changing "the face" of the industrial park. Robert took pride in

the bond he developed with the people of Carson City. He knew they

were special.

Robert returned to Mountain View in 2001 due to health reasons.

Robert leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Gertrude, his children Christine Calhoun (Roger), Clifford Gilkey (Margaret), and Janis Hobde (Brett), and his six grandchildren whom he adored. In addition, Robert is survived by his dear sister, Patricia Arkin, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Spangler Mortuary, 399 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos, CA. 94022.

Spangler Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
