Carson City Boxing Club to hold event

The Carson City Boxing Club will hold a 15-fight card on Saturday at its facility at the Highway 50 East Business Center, building 219.

Fighting will begin at 2 p.m. General admission is $10 and $5 for children 7 and under. All of the fights are scheduled three-round bouts.

The main event will featured 170-pounder Anthony Wedlock against Stephen Trujillo of the Eastern Nevada Boxlng Club in Ely. Wedlock is 3-0, winning all of his fights by first round knockouts.

"I've been wating for this fight now in Carson for a while and I'm coming in in good shape, a lot of good sparring," Wedlock said.

Other top fighters from the Carson City Boxing Club to be featured include 13-year-old Javier Torres, an Eagle Valley Middle School seventh grader, who will fight Ely's Aaron Trujillo at 140 pounds. Torres is 2-0 with one knockout.

"Just to win and not get tired," said Torres about his gameplan. "I feel I've come a long way and I'm ready."

There's also 19-year-old heavyweight Neil Jasso, a 2007 Carson High graduate, will will be fighting for the first time against Rite of Passage's Steve Edgar. "Just to do my best and don't drop my hands," said Jasso about his strategy.

In addition, there's 135-pounder Martin Camacho, who will fight ROP's Andrew Rempp. Longtime youth boxing coach Chuck Williams, who has been involved in youth boxing for 32 years, will be honored during the event.

The Carson City Boxing Club is coached by Frank Peralta and assistant coaches Francisco Torres and Ricardo Pacheco.
