Memorial Day Ceremony at Lone Mountain Cemetery


Carson City Silver State Detachment No. 630 will hold a ceremony to honor those who have died in past wars, Monday 10:30 a.m. at Stewart Indian Cemetery and noon at Lone Mountain Cemetery. Carson City High School JROTC will provide the honor color guard in this ceremony. The public is invited. For information, call 790-0260.




Citizens Alliance For No V&T Tax to meet


The Citizen's Alliance For No V&T Tax will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Arrowhead Conference Room at the Carson City Holiday Inn, 4055 N. Carson St. All citizens interested in helping prevent the risk of tax money for the V&T Railway are invited to attend this organization meeting. Honor Society tabs Carson resident


The Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society has selected Carson City resident Sophia Catherine Raphael for membership in the local chapter at University of Nevada, Reno. She is majoring in marketing and plans to learn Arabic and work as an event coordinator. Raphael is a graduate of Carson High School. She is the daughter of Joseph Raphael and Patty Shinault.




Explorers club hosting car wash


The Carson City Sheriff's Department Explorers club is hosting a car wash today from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart off Retail Drive. The club is raising money for a trip to Las Vegas for a competition. The club needs to raise $1,500 to pay for the trip.

Hear Father's Day stories, make crafts


The Douglas County Public Library Lake Tahoe branch presents Saturday Stories and Crafts at 1 p.m, June 7. Miss Carol will read Father's Day stories. Children will make a craft for Dad.

Summer Food Service Program offered June 9


The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free lunch will be served to all children ages 1-18. The program will begin June 9 in Dresslerville, Carson and Stewart and June 16 for the Woodfords area. Lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. The locations are: Carson Colony Gym, 2900 S. Curry St.; Stewart Community Building, 465 Clear Creek Ave.; Dresslerville Gym, 1585 Watasheamu, Gardnerville, and Woodfords Community Building, 96 Washoe Blvd., Markleeville, Calif. Scrapbook Workshop starting


Douglas County Senior Services sponsors a Scrapbook Workshop 9-11 a.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month beginning May 29, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. The class fee is $6. The two-hour workshop is designed for everyone. For information, call 783-6455 or 265-6345.
