Gardnerville residents Norman White, 73, and his wife Virginia, 70, were killed in a car accident Friday evening on Highway 395 near China Springs Road in Douglas County.

Those who witnessed the accident are encouraged to contact the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The couple was traveling south bound at 4:40 p.m. in their classic 1955 Pontiac sedan. For reasons unknown, Norman, the driver, applied the brakes and swerved to the left into oncoming traffic.

The car skidded sideways in the northbound lane and was struck on the right side by a 1999 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Hector Trigueros, 40, of Topaz, Calif.

NHP officials said the force of the crash killed the Whites at the scene of the accident.

Trigueros was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center by ambulance and then flown by helicopter to Renown Medical Center, said NHP trooper Chuck Allen.

After treatment, Trigueros was released from Renown Saturday night.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, Allen said.

Those who witnessed the accident are encouraged to contact investigating officer NHP trooper Kris Satterwhite at 689-4682.
