McAlman competes at West Regionals

Alex McAlman turned in a respectable effort for the University of Nevada women's track team at the NCAA West Regionals on Friday at Cal State Northridge.

McAlman, a 2006 Carson High graduate, was 11th in the hammer throw at 175 feet, 4 inches and was 12th in the discus at 152-8. The top five finishers advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Rickey signs with Pensacola Pelicans

Former Western Nevada College pitcher Chris Rickey was signed by the Pensacola Pelicans of the independent league American Association on Friday.

Rickey, a Reno High graduate who also pitched for the University of Nevada, was a member of the 2007 Wildcat baseball team that advanced to the JUCO World Series. Going into Friday, Pensacola was tied for first place with Forth Worth in the American Assocation's South Division at 11-9.

Baum shoots ace at Silver Oak Golf Club

Vinnie Baum recently fired a hole-in-one at Silver Oak Golf Club. He used an 8-iron from the white tee in the 134-yard sixth hole. Craig Cedar and Robert Hendry witnessed the shot.
