Sperry Van Ness has sold two acres of retail land to Maverick Inc. of Salt Lake City for $1,970,000. The land is at 1451 College Parkway off the Highway 395 off-ramp in Carson City. Maverick will use the site for a convenience store and gas station. Lyle Chamberlain and Thomas Y. Johnson of Sperry Van Ness in Carson City represented both the buyer and the seller in the transaction.

Anvil Recycling/Gopher Construction will start building a new facility in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center after it received a special use permit from the Storey County Planning Commission.

Russ Calkins of Anvil said the company already has a building in Storey County, but has outgrown it. The new structure will be on Waltham Way in the industrial center.

The company recycles large construction gear like Caterpillar construction equipment, blades and steel poles from advertising signs. The materials are cut to designated lengths in order to fit into sea-going containers. Calkins estimated that the containers will probably be on property for less than a day.

Park Cattle Ranch has been selected for the 2008 Best of Minden Award in the Ranches category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA). The USLBA Best of Local Business Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country.

Carson City visitors now have an insider's guide to visiting Nevada's capital. Its new Web site, www.visitcarsoncity.com, provides insight into the city's activities, news and things to do. The site underwent many transformations, including a complete redesign of the 90-page Web site, improved functionality and navigation, additional detailed information for planning trips and more than 30 high-quality photos.

Upcoming events, lodging and dining deals and other key attractions are up front and give virtual visitors a more complete and better understanding of all there is to do and see during their stay.

The "Itineraries" section was expanded to give visitors in-depth looks at the various "Trails" (day trips). For the history buff, there is the Kit Carson Trail, History Trail and Genoa Walk - enhanced with historic imagery from the Nevada State Museum.
