Trial date set for Fuentes in drug charge

A Carson City man with a lengthy criminal history but few convictions will be tried in January on a drug possession charge.

Fidel Fuentes, 26, will be tried on Jan. 13. on a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine. He pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday.

If convicted, the charge carries a penalty of one to six years in prison and a $50,000 fine. It is not a a crime for which probation is an option.

Fuentes, 26, was jailed Sept. 22 after officers allegedly found methamphetamine in his pants pocket.

Court records indicate he has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2003.

Among some of the incidents, Fuentes has been arrested in connection with kidnapping, domestic battery, home invasion and conspiracy to possess stolen property.

All of the charges were dismissed, except for the conspiracy to possess stolen property for which he received a year in jail in October 2007. He was released after nine months with good-time credit.
