Gibbons puts Reno home up for sale

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons and first lady Dawn Gibbons, in the midst of a divorce, have put their Reno home up for sale.

The couple is asking nearly $1.5 million for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home, where the governor has often stayed instead of the Governor's Mansion.

Dawn Gibbons has been living in a guest cottage adjacent to the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.

Her attorney, Cal Dunlap, said it's common for divorcing couples to sell their property.

"We have cooperated in his (the governor's) request to list the property," Dunlap said.

Records from the Washoe County assessor's office show the couple has owned the 4,677-square-foot southwest Reno home since 1989. The residence with mountain views sits on 2.96 acres. Annual property taxes total $6,990.

The governor filed for divorce in May, citing "incompatibility." Dawn Gibbons, a former assemblywoman, stated in court documents that the governor was seeking a divorce because he was involved with another woman.

The governor has denied the allegation.

Dunlap said he also expects the Gibbonses to list for sale 40 acres they own in Elko County.

They purchased the property near Lamoille in August 2007 from former Washoe District Judge Jerry Carr Whitehead for $575,000. They had planned to build a retirement home there.
