IRS has checks for 262 western Nevadans

More than 260 western Nevadans have money coming to them, but the Internal Revenue Service can't deliver the checks.

Checks totaling more than $155,000 sent to 262 western Nevada residents were returned as undeliverable, IRS spokesman Rafael Tulino said from San Diego. Statewide, 5,402 checks totaling more than $4 million did not find their way to taxpayers.

The checks are a mix of economic stimulus checks and tax refunds.

In Carson City, 96 checks worth $54,000 are awaiting their rightful owners. The average check in the Capital is for $562.

In Douglas, 93 taxpayers are owed a total of $65,164 " an average of $700. Forty-eight taxpayers in Lyon County are owed $23,224 " an average of $483 " and, in Churchill County, $12,977 is owed to 22 taxpayers " an average of $589.

There are also three checks returned from Storey County residents but Tulino said because of the small number, IRS will not give out dollar totals to protect their privacy.

The names of all the taxpayers are being released by IRS in an effort to find those individuals and pay them the money they are owed.

"People across the country are missing tax refunds and stimulus check," he said. "We want to get this money into the hands of taxpayers where it belongs."
