Carson Middle School Band is worth checking out

To those of you who have not had the privilege to see the wonderful and talented Carson Middle School Band perform, either marching in the Nevada Day parade or the Virginia City Veterans Day parade or heard them in concert, you missed one of the best-kept secrets in Carson City! The new uniforms made the group really stand out.

Director Will Blankenship's dedication and knowledge brought this musical group back to the form the group has not seen since it was under the tutelage of Richard Doede, the long-time band director who, through his dedication and knowledge, inspired so many of Carson's students to achieve above-average heights with their musical instruments.

Our students are so lucky to have such a wonderful music program available to them and to have a director who motivates them to want to do the best they can. Their performance in the Nevada Day parade was far above several of the high school bands and ROTC marching units. Congratulations to all of you. Keep up the good work.

The Veterans Day Salute presented by the Carson Middle School was one of the best I have seen in many years. The poster presentation on the front lawn and in the hallways was most inspiring. Principal Sam Santillo and the leadership group should be commended. It is so nice to see such positive things happening with our younger children. And isn't the school's remodel wonderful?

Veteran appreciates service at Seeliger Elementary School

I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to the Veterans Appreciation Day at Seeliger Elementary.

Mr. Conley, his staff and students put on an exceptional program for the veterans, past and present. I would like to personally thank Mrs. Cowan for inviting me to her second-grade class so that her students could ask questions, not only about my 20 years of Naval service, but the military in general.

I personally salute each and every one at Seeliger Elementary for a job well done. Keep up the outstanding commitment to the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Thank you very much.

No one should be embarrassed of flag

This flag Ms. Johnson so denigrates, trivializes and insults has waved proudly through over 200 years of our nation's existence and deserves so much more honor than she has given it.

Perhaps, on second thought, it is better that she was reluctant to display the flag because, just maybe, the American flag would have been too embarrassed of her to be displayed from her front porch.
