A fundraiser is set for noon Dec. 7 at Decades Bar and Grill in Carson City to benefit Joe and Darah Shatswell and their newborn quadruplets.

Joe Shatswell is a 22-year-old Army specialist who was home for a month for the birth of the three girls and boy, but returned Nov. 16 to Afghanistan where he is serving in the infantry.

His 24-year-old wife and 2-year-old daughter Zowie are staying with his wife's family in Gardnerville until his Afghanistan deployment ends in July.

Shatswell is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

The babies were born Oct. 26 and are expected to remain at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno until the end of December. They are listed in good condition.

The babies were conceived without the use of fertility drugs and came as a complete surprise to the Shatswells who tried for three years to conceive before Zowie was born.

Members of the community have been donating everything from diapers to car seats for the family, and items still are being accepted.

The family is looking for gently used baby items, clothing, blankets and furniture.

Three bands are to perform at the fundraiser including Days 11, Tin Splendor and Atomic Giants.

Decades Bar and Grill is at 1475 Old Hot Springs Road.

Donations for the Shatswells will be accepted at the door.

Cash donations may be made at U.S. Bank, account No. 253751110904.

Organizers are seeking items for door prizes or raffles during the event that is expected to last until 9 p.m.

For information on drop-off locations for donations, call 230-8735.
