October already! Time sure flies when you are a busy Senator at Carson High School. Here are some of the upcoming events and festivities for the nest few weeks for students, parents and community!
The CHS Guidance Office will be hosting a junior/senior parent night on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. in the Carson High Library. Parents are welcome to attend and find out more about graduation requirements and entrance exams, upcoming testing, scholarships, financial aid, millennium scholarship information, senior costs, etc.
The Pre-SAT will be administered to sophomores and juniors on Oct. 15. For sophomores, this test is mandatory and free. Students will get information from their English II teacher for information on where to report.
For juniors, it is an option, but encouraged if they are college bound. There is a $15 fee for juniors who opt to take the test, and they can sign up to take the test in the finance office. Information for where juniors should report to take the PSAT will be posted outside of the guidance office.
For any students interested in a military career, the ASVAB test will also be administered on Oct. 15. There is no charge for this test and students can sign up in the guidance office.
Carson Performing Arts will present their first main-stage show of the season, "Murder in the Knife Room," by Jonathan Rand at the Carson Community Center just in time for the impending Halloween season.
Presented by the Intermediate Drama class at Carson High, the show opens 7:30 p.m. Friday night Oct. 10 and will be presented again at a 7:30 p.m. show Oct. 11 and a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 19.
Cost is $8 for general admission, $7 for senior citizens and college students, and $6 for students and children.
There will be also be a special Wednesday night show on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. as part of the CHS Homecoming week of festivities.
The cost for that show is $3, plus a can of food for TOTS Eat (Trick of Treat So Kids Can Eat), an international food drive project sponsored by Educational Theatre Association. Drama students will also be out Halloween night trick-or-treating not for candy, but for canned foods for needy children.
Full of "sharp" humor, "Murder in the Knife Room" tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved on boxoffice@carson.K12.nv.us.
