Senators volleyball downs Vikings: Damonte Ranch beats Galena

Brianna Anderson and Cameo Lomorri each had 10 kills, with Lomorri also contributing 24 digs and a team-high four aces, to help lead the Carson High School volleyball team to a 25-17, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17 Sierra League victory on Thursday night against the Vikings at South Tahoe High School.

The first three games were back and forth affairs, but the Senators jumped ahead 14-8 in the decisive fourth game and never trailed again. Danae Eckart had 30 digs and Nikki Keller added four blocks for Carson, which improved to 6-3 in league.

South Tahoe, meanwhile, dropped to 10-8 overall and 1-7 in league. The Vikings had several standout performances, led by Rachel Kaufer's 13 kills and 27 digs. Kasey Roberts also contributed 27 digs for South Tahoe, which got seven kills and two blocks by Chelsea Madsen and two blocks and five kills by Caroline Baghdikian.

Also for Carson, Mavil Diaz had 16 digs and Anderson had 10 digs, three blocks and two aces.

Carson coach Justin Malley also decided to go with Kendra Krupp at setter in an effort to continue to groom her for the position and Krupp came through with a solid effort with 40 assists.

Malley said he decided to go with Krupp in part due to her effort in the first meeting against South Tahoe while starting setter Shannon Earwood was out with an injury. Malley said Earwood would return to the lineup for Tuesday's showdown against Manogue at Morse Burley Gym.

Carson won the JV match 2-1 and the freshman match 2-0.

DAMONTE RANCH 3, GALENA 1

The Mustangs dropped the Grizzlies to 3-6 in Sierra League play and 11-14 overall with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19 victory.

Emily Aguire led Galena with 11 kills and seven blocks and Bree Crook added 22 assists in the loss. Danica Vigni led Galena with 17 digs, Brooke Keever added 12 and Casey Burke chipped in with 10 to go with five kills.

The Grizzlies also got contributions from Kim Maut (eight kills), Whitney Robinson (nine blocks and three aces) and Siera Lucich (five blocks).

Galena's junior varsity beat the Mustangs 23-25, 25-14 and 15-3, while the Grizzlies freshman team took a 25-8, 25-17 victory.
