The Carson High volleyball team again had plenty of comebacks in itself, but every time Damonte Ranch was able to answer.

The Mustangs took command of the race for second place in the Sierra League with a 25-17, 13-25, 27-25, 27-25 win over Carson on Tuesday at Morse Burley Gym. Damonte now is in second by itself at 9-2 behind first place Douglas, which is 11-0.

Manogue is now in third at 8-3 while Carson has fallen to 7-4. The Senators still have a realistic shot to finish third as the Miners still have to play Douglas and Damonte while Carson still has to play Douglas.

The No. 3 seed is important because whoever ends up as the No. 4 seed will have to play the High Desert League's top team, Reno High, in the first round of the Northern 4A playoffs.

In games three and four, Carson was able to overcome 24-20 deficits to tie the score 24-24, but Damonte went on to win both games. The Mustangs built a 19-11 lead in game three when a Mavil Diaz ace for Carson cut the deficit to 19-14 and helped spark the comeback.

Breanna Anderson's ace followed by two Blaike King kills and a King block for the Senators tied the score 20-20. Damonte appeared to regain control when it took a 24-20 lead.

But Nikki Keller's kill for the Senators began a 4-0 run. Kailey Taylor and Shannon Earwood combined on a block for Carson to tie the score 24-24.

After Damonte took a 25-25 lead, King answered with a kill to tie the score 25-25. But Rae Steel answered with a kill for Damonte to give the Mustangs a 26-25 lead and Damonte went on to win the game.

Down 8-4 in game four, Carson went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-8 lead, with King serving for seven straight points during the run. But Damonte kept coming back until it eventually went up 24-20.

Again Carson mounted a comeback behind Cameo Lomorri's kill, Anderson's ace and two King kills to tie the score 24-25. Steel answered with a dink to give Damonte a 25-24 lead before King had the last of her six kills down the stretch to tie it 25-25 before the Mustangs won the match.

With Carson up 7-6 in game one, Damonte went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-9 lead and effectively take control of game one.

Danae Eckart's ace and Elysee Virden's block helped Carson take a 7-2 lead in game two. After Damonte closed to within 9-8, Carson was able to respond behind Nikki Keller's two kills to give the Senators a 12-8 lead and CHS went on to pull away.
