See 'Eyes Wide Open Nevada'

"Eyes Wide Open Nevada" exhibit will arrive Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Legislature Mall.

Memorial ceremonies will be noon and 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2 and noon Monday, Nov. 3. The exhibit features 35 pairs of combat boots memorializing the U.S. soldiers from Nevada who have died in the Iraq War.

Carson City and Nevada peacemakers affiliated with Stand for Peace Nevada, members of the First United Methodist Church of Carson City, and Nevada Desert Experience are co-hosting the exhibit. For information, visit http://www.afsc.org/

Republicans provide free transportation to vote

The Lyon County Republicans will provide free transportation for Lyon County residents who do not have their own means of getting to their polling locations on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Wine and Grape Seminar at Fallon WNC

World-renowned winemaker and grape grower John Caldwell of Caldwell Vineyards presents a Nevada Wine and Grape Seminar 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7 at Western Nevada College Fallon campus Virgil Getto Hall, 160 Campus Way in Fallon. Cost is $25, or $20 if registered by November 4.

The wine and grape seminar is part of a series of workshops to be offered by the Specialty Crop Institute of Western Nevada College, in association with the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

Carson Valley Artists Association seeks artists

The Carson Valley Artists Association is seeking artists for the Scholarship Show through Thursday, Nov. 6, 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the CVIC Hall, Minden. All Nevada and California artists are invited to submit their best work. There is no size limit.

Members will pay $6.00 per entry; non-members will pay $8.00 per entry and high school students will pay $5 per entry. Fees are non-refundable. The proceeds from this show provide scholarships for Douglas and Whittell High School students continuing their art education. For information, call 783-9639.

Historic clothing exhibit at Dangberg Home Ranch

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, operated by the Nevada Division of State Parks in collaboration with Douglas County, will display portions of its collection of historic clothing in a special exhibit 1-5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 2.

Admission is $3 for adults, and free for children 12 and under. Highlights include the wedding gown worn by Gertrude Dangberg in her 1898 wedding, a ball gown she wore to Carson City parties in 1903. The park's regular tours will not be offered during the weekend of the exhibit.
