More deputies will be on the streets cracking down on speeding through Wednesday thanks to grant money.
Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Steve Olson said overtime for the campaign is paid for through the Joining Forces Grant administered through the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal crashes, costing annually more than 40.4 billion dollars and 13,000 lives.
"By participating in this effort to reduce speeding, we want to avoid having the citizens of Carson City become part of these statistics," said Olson in a press release.
Statistics show that traffic crashes are the number one killer of Americans ages 3 through 33.
"Speed kills, and you should leave speed at the race track. Traffic enforcement is a major concern in Carson City. We want people to slow down and drive safely," Olson said.
