Carson City Senior Center hosts a jewelry sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, 911 Beverly Drive. This fundraiser is to support the senior center's programs.

Donations of jewelry may be left at the center reception desk, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. For information, call 883-0703.

Friends of the Carson City Library host Oktoberfest Book Sale, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Pony Express Pavilion, Mills Park. This is a great opportunity to get a head start on holiday gifts or find treasures for yourself.

Raku class returns 2-5 p.m, Monday, Oct. 6 and continues through Monday, Nov. 10 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.

The raku class emphasizes a special type of firing technique that originated in Japan in the 16th century.

Class fees are $130 with a $10 discount for BAC members, seniors and students.

DAWG hosts a special adoption event 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road, Gardnerville. The event will be hosted by volunteers from Douglas Animal Welfare Group and coincides with national "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month."

With each adoption, DAWG will provide free spay or neuter, free training, free microchipping (to help recover a lost pet), and a free pizza card. For information, call 267-3202 or 782-9061.
