A Carson City woman was recovering Monday after being struck in a crosswalk Saturday afternoon.
Sonja Gasper, 69, was struck as she crossed Robinson Street at Carson Street about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, son-in-law Sam Crowley said.
"The truck hit her on her left side of her body. She bruised a lung, broke her elbow, broke her pelvis, and her knee might be broken," Crowely said. Gasper remains in the orthopedic unit of Renown Regional Medical Center.
She was eastbound in the crosswalk when a truck driven by Gary Joe Prothero, 66, made a left turn onto southbound Carson Street from Robinson Street and hit Gasper.
She was taken by ambulance to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, than later flown to Reno.
Prothero was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen.
Crowley said his mother-in-law often crosses at that crosswalk because of her job with the Nevada State Museum.
He said her accident is a reminder to people to be more aware of pedestrians and crosswalks.
