Western Nevada College continues to celebrate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy at its Jack C. Davis Observatory.

There will be a free star party and astronomical lecture at the observatory every Saturday evening at dusk throughout 2009. The public is invited to look through various telescopes operated by volunteer members of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society.

The observatory is releasing a space photo each month that was taken from a telescope at the Davis Observatory.

This month's observatory image is "M 1-The Crab Nebula - A Remnant Supernova." It was taken by observatory staff.
