TUCSON, Ariz. " Southern California coach Tim Floyd visited Tucson on Wednesday to talk about the vacant Arizona coaching job, the Tucson Citizen reported on its Web site.

Floyd has emerged as a potential permanent successor to Hall of Famer Lute Olson, who retired last October.

Phoenix radio station KTAR cited multiple sources as saying Floyd would get the job. But there was no confirmation elsewhere that discussions had gotten that far.

The newspaper cited an unidentified source, and reported it was not clear if Floyd had been offered the job.

Floyd has led the Trojans to the NCAA tournament three straight times, and this year he coached them to the Pac-10 tournament title.

Russ Pennell was interim coach for Arizona this season, leading the Wildcats to a 21-14 record and an NCAA appearance.

Messages left at Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood's home and on his cell phone were not returned Wednesday night.
