Leon "Lee" Mayfield, 79, passed away at his home in Stagecoach, April 2, 2009.
He was born Aug. 15, 1929 to William and Edith Mayfield in Enid, Okla.
Lee served in the United States Air Force during World War II and retired with 26 years of service as a Deputy Sheriff working within several different stations, including Norwalk, Lakewood and LaMirada in the Los Angeles area.
After retirement, Lee and his wife, Lois, relocated to Stagecoach to begin their retirement years together.
Lee was an avid record and coin collector and enjoyed sharing his memories of the Sheriffs Department with family and friends. He worked for the Virginia City Trolley Company in Virginia City, part-time, sharing the history of the small town with visitors and reminiscing with the locals.
Lee is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 44 years Lois; his mother Edith and father William and sister Geraldine Pittman.
He is survived by his seven daughters, Bonnie Schaar, Bobbie Jo Miller and Kay Sandhagen all of Carson City. Jerry Garrison of Illinois, Penny Verner of Oklahoma and Toni Tyson and Sharon Schroeder of California and his loving companion of the last six years, Carol Beal of Silver Springs. Sisters Audrey Dyer and Shirley Dearen both of California and brother Jimmy Mayfield of Oklahoma also survive him.
He was a very active part of his grandchildren's lives and was often seen at the local race track, baseball and soccer fields and junior high gymnasiums supporting his six local grandchildren including, Mackena and Kellcy Bell, Brianna and Corryne Millett, Christian Anderson and Bella Re'.
In total, Lee was blessed with sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. All of them agree, that he was simply the best!
Friends and family are invited to the visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
