Dull. The Capitol building has been a poor source from which to gather items this week. That place is in keeping with the whole town - it is dull there. The ladies had some new lamps up in the Episcopal Church, producing a very cheerful and brilliant light. Clairvoyant and Test Medium Mrs. A. Dyer, is stopping in rooms six and seven of the Arlington House. She cures all diseases and reads the past and future.

Dr. Henessey will leave tonight for a visit to the Sandwich Islands, where he will remain for several weeks. During his absence Dr. Fitzpatrick will take charge of the office.

The silver problem as it affects Nevada vitally was discussed at the Lions meeting today by Governor E.P. Carville.

A noted newspaper man and founder of the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise, Dennis McCarthy, was honored by having a $500 scholarship donated in his name at the convention of the Nevada State Press Association. McCarthy was one of the partners in the team of Goodman and McCarthy who started the Enterprise. They were the first persons to hire "Mark Twain" as a reporter after Sam Clemens applied for a position as a printer.

The state's lone black senator said he will sponsor a resolution this session condemning South Africa's apartheid policies and will also try to educate Nevadans about startling links between the U.S. And Africa's wars. Members of the 1989 Africa Peace Tour, now in Nevada, urged Senator Joe Neal, D-North Las Vegas.

A Senate panel unanimously approved a bill Friday to outlaw drugged driving. The bill did not provide for impairment under prescription drugs.

- Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
