A 19-year-old Carson City man was shot in the leg Thursday night in a drive-by shooting on Long Street in which the shooters passed by a second time and pointed a gun at good Samaritans who'd come to the victim's aid.

Mike Moyer said he was inside his Long Street apartment about 8:20 p.m. when he heard three gunshots.

Moyer said he immediately called 911, and when he stepped out his front door, he saw a Hispanic man lying in the street.

When Moyer lifted the man up to take him to safety, a four-door Toyota sedan sped out of the nearby driveway and a gun emerged from the driver's side rear window.

"It was pointing right at me," said Moyer. "The car burned out of the driveway, drove by real slow, then took off,"

He said when he saw the gun, he dropped the wounded man and yelled to his girlfriend and another man to run.

Once the coast was clear, Moyer dragged the victim into his apartment and waited for police to arrive.

"I feel bad I dropped the guy," he said later as police swarmed the small complex two blocks from Carson High School. "I hope he's OK."

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by helicopter. His status was not immediately available.

Scores of officers converged on the area and orange cones marked the spots where 18 shell casings were found, as witnesses came forward to report what they knew.

One man, who didn't give his name, said he was walking through the complex when he too heard the gunshots. As he got closer, he saw the victim on the ground and Moyer telling him to run.

The man said he ran to the rear of the driveway and as he did, he saw another man running with what appeared to a rifle.

"He was looking around like he wanted to get rid of it," he said.

The suspect then disappeared over a fence that leads to Sunset Park off Sunland Drive.

About 10 p.m. officers searching the area came across a rifle hidden in brush near the fence.

At about 10: 30 p.m. SWAT was called out to assist.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said it appears that the incident stemmed from a party held at the complex earlier in the evening.

"Our goal is to get these houses secured right now, because we've got " what we think " is at least three people who may have been shooting at one person," said Furlong at 10:40 p.m.

"This looks to be gang related and these gang-related incidents end in these shootings."
