The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce's ninth annual business showcase, 3 to 7 p.m. April 23 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, may be more significant this year given the economic climate.

"Everything is so magnified," said Bill Chernock, executive director of the chamber. "The event shows off what local businesses in the community are capable of, and that's more important than usual right now."

Chernock said more than 60 local businesses will be displaying their products and services, and giving out free samples.

Bravo Cafe, Russell's Mercantile and Wasabi's are just a few of the restaurants to attend.

"We have a real good line-up of restaurants, and that's one of the key reasons people attend, for the tasting and samples," Chernock said.

But another reason people attend is to hunt down specials and promotions.

"Given everything that's going on right now, a lot of businesses are being very aggressive about offering specials," Chernock said. "There's an opportunity to talk to businesses and find some great deals."

Parking and admission to the showcase are free. Sponsored by GE Energy, E Squared C and The Record-Courier, the event will also feature a raffle.
