A Carson City business owner was jailed early Monday morning after he allegedly shot his brother in the arm following a "frivolous" argument, officials said.
Aaron Glenn Vanveckhoven, 50, owner of Automotive Transmission Wholesale, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery with substantial bodily harm, misdemeanor discharging a firearm within the city limits and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
The arrest report stated a 911 dispatch received a call of shots fired at 1440 Rand Ave. The caller set the phone down and dispatchers could hear someone in the background exclaiming, "You shot me."
Dispatch logs also indicate a voice yelling, "Get up."
When police arrived, they found Keith Vanveckhoven with a serious wound to his upper arm between his elbow and shoulder.
"Deputy (Eric) Clowser made contact with Keith who stated that his brother shot him. Keith stated that they were arguing about something frivolous and his brother shot him," Deputy Brian Mendoza wrote in the report.
When questioned by police, Aaron Vanveckhoven allegedly said he and his brother were both "messing around" with the shotgun, the shotgun went off and shot his brother.
"He asked if his brother was going to be all right and kept insisting it was an accident," the report states.
Keith Vanveckhoven was taken by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he was scheduled to undergo surgery.
"His condition is not known at this time, but it's expected to be very serious. It took out most of his arm," said Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Aaron Vanveckhoven is being held on $31,264 bail.
