Residents can meet with Bureau of Land Management representatives at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Carson City Sheriff's Department, 901 E. Musser St., to talk about a proposed federal fire station.

BLM has said it would like to build the fire station at base of the Prison Hill open space area, east of the intersection of South Edmonds Drive and Koontz Lane.

The U.S. Forest Service and BLM would use the building to hold housing for 40 seasonal firefighters, training classrooms, storage and possibly a garage for fire trucks.

BLM has said it has not made a final decision to build the fire station there.

Carson City has no authority to stop the BLM fire station, city staff have said.

About 300 homes could be affected by the fire station if it built, residents have said.
