Aces knock off Bees 10-9 in series finale

RENO " Reno jumped out to a 5-1 first-inning lead and then needed a double by Augustin Murillo and a triple by Brandon Watson to pull out a 10-9 win over the Salt Lake City Bees in the final game of their series Monday night at Aces Ballpark.

Reno led 5-1 after one inning only to see Salt Lake pull into a 9-all tie with two in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the top of the eighth.

Murrillo doubled, Rusty Ryal struck out as did pinch-hitter Josh Wilson. Up stepped Watson, who tripled home Murrillo to snap a 9-all tie.

Reliever Josh Ellis, the fourth Aces pitcher, struck out two in the ninth and allowed only a single to Adam Pavkovich en route to picking up his second win of the season.

After Salt Lake scored one in the first, Reno exploded for five in the bottom of the inning.

Trent Oeltjen was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a single by Alex Romero, Josh Whitesell walked to load the bases with one out. Catcher John Hester followed with a grandslam to left. After Ruben Gotay was retired for the second out, Murrillo doubled and then scored when Ryal drove a single off the glove of Freddy Sandoval.

Murrillo drove in a run in the third to make it 6-3. Salt Lake tied it at 6 in the fourth, but Reno took a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Alex Romero and a double by Whitesell.

Reno opens a seris tonight against Colorado at 6:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1450AM.
