The annual Escape from Prison Hill half-marathon will be 7 a.m. Saturday at the Silver Saddle Ranch.

This hallmark half-marathon is an excellent way for those wishing to experience the taste of ultra-marathoning without the added distance. The course offers exceptional views of the Carson River Valley and eastern Sierra.

The Put Your Best Foot Forward Run/Walk brings people of all ages and backgrounds together, walking and running in support of Court Appointed Special Advocates of Carson City.

The race will be 8:30 a.m. May 2 at Long Ranch Park in West Carson City.

In Nevada, CASA volunteers primarily serve as guardian ad litem advocating for children taken into care by the state through a child welfare court case.

The CASA of Carson City Run/Walk will be timed, has categories for different ages and has a 5k route. The event is limited to 300 participants.

Pinenut Cracker mountain bike race is presented by Alta Alpina Cycling Club, and offers epic loops with plenty of climbing, exciting single track, exhilarating descents and some of the best dirt Mother Nature has to offer.

The parking area and registration will be at the Douglas County Fair Grounds in Gardnerville.

Same day registration opens at 8 a.m. May 2.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering athree-day regional Guide and Hike Leader Training on May 29-31.

The training will be held at Granlibakken Conference Center in Tahoe City, and the course cost includes food and dormitory-style lodging. This training is designed for those that wish to guide for the TRTA, or for another organization. The three-day Guide Training will encompass the following components:

Successful Program Design (Marketing, developing and ensuring a successful program), Planning and Preparing (Defining objectives, route planning, logistics, safety considerations and participant screening), Conducting/ Implementing (Starting a hike, on the trail techniques, tips and tools & post hike procedures), Safety and Emergency Procedures (Managing risk, assessing risk in the field, plan of action, implementation, search and rescue & legal issues), Leadership Skills (Styles, roles, strategies, hard vs. soft skills, group and self awareness & communication).

The principles of Leave No Trace will also be taught, along with Navigation Map and compass skills and staying found.

This is a collaborative training with partners such as Truckee Trails Foundation, Lahontan Audubon Society, the United States Forest Service and Sierra Nevada Journeys.

Cost is $145 per person for all three days of training.
