State regulators say a Carson City assisted-living facility has been fined $1,000 after a March inspection found numerous problems with food storage and preparation.
The Nevada Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance imposed the fine on the Sierra Place Retirement Community on West College Parkway.
The facility, which did not contest the penalty, is licensed to care for 76 elderly and disabled clients.
Bureau officials say the multiple violations of food safety requirements coincided with a significant increase in incidents of gastrointestinal illness among residents.
A later inspection showed full compliance by the facility.
