Jesse Rasner and Cavin Hill combined to shut down the Sacramento Red Sox as the Nevada Bighorns summer college baseball team went on to a 3-1 win Saturday at Western Nevada College's John L. Harvey Field.
Rasner started on the mound and scattered seven hits. He allowed one run and struck out six over seven innings. Hill picked up the save, retiring all six batters he faced while striking out three over the final two innings.
The Bighorns took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Royal Good singled and scored on Sean Costella's triple. Costella scored on Shane Kockenmeister's RBI groundout. The Bighorns took a 3-1 lead in the third when Costella reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Costella then broke for home and forced pitcher
Nick Davis into a balk. Costella was credited with a stolen base.
Adam Anderson doubled and Jeff Young, Jay Skilton and Kevin Schlange all added a hit for the Bighorns. Davis was the tough luck loser as he didn't allow an earned run after the first in his complete game effort.
The two teams will play again on Sunday in a doubleheader, beginning at 10 a.m. at John L. Harvey Field.
